GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY

HHLLC promotes a pro-neighbor attitude and we follow up with prosocial behaviors.

-- “Love thy neighbor as thy self”.

The Why:

  1. You represent yourself and should do so in such a manner that you exude excellence and humility.  Be proud that you are overcoming an addiction, but humble in your attitude toward others.

  2. You represent HHLLC.  Our goal is to give you a chance to overcome your obstacles and get set for a sober life.  We plan to be here for generations.  Think and act beyond yourself.

  3. You represent recovering addicts everywhere.  The stigma of addiction remains despite decades of public education.  Although community members support your recovery, people still struggle with a sober living home being located in their neighborhood.  A part of your mission is to demonstrate the strength and character it takes to change for the better. Our third goal is to show through our actions we are good people with a bad illness, and that we deserve a chance, not prison.

  4. Last, we have remained anonymous for over five (5) years in residential neighborhoods and work hard at keeping things that way.

The How:

  1. Do not congregate out front in groups larger than 3-4.

  2. Smoke out back of the house.

  3. Be aware of the space you take up, give up space to others on the sidewalk, street, etc to include parking.

  4. Volunteer to be of help in any way you can.  Shovel snow from neighbors driveway or around their car or mow that extra part of the grass that divides the property.

  5. Always maintain the yard.

  6. Always pick up trash.

  7. If you are taking something to the dump, find out if the neighbor has anything they want to send.

  8. Do your best to be of service to all neighbors.

  9. Keep your voices lowered, and be aware of subject matter. This is just as important on the deck and smoking areas.

  10. Turn music down at night and when pulling into any residential neighborhood.

  11. Slow down and make sure your guests do the same.

  12. Limit the use of foul language.

  13. Use “Please” and “Thank you”.

  14. Be polite and courteous – you will be amazed how many doors this opens on its own!
